MARCH 2026: ‘FROM STORY TO SONG’ @ CODA MUSIC AND ARTS CENTRE
Join local musician and songwriter Esther Keappock for a folk-song workshop series exploring how stories from across the New Forest take root and find their way into song.
During the workshop series, participants will discover local folk songs together from across the New Forest and surrounding areas, tracing the landscapes, people, and moments that shaped them.
There is no requirement to sing or participate in any of the song performances; the workshops are designed as a welcoming space to gather, share stories and listen to songs from across the local area. If you are already a fan of local folk songs and have any recommendations: do feel free to bring along a recording/manuscript or drop us a link in an email so that we can add them into the song pile! If you are a performer / enjoy singing and have a local song to share then please do bring along your instrument / warm up those vocal chords so that we can fill these sessions with as many different voices and songs as possible - there'll be a section of the workshops designated to a ‘song show and tell’ and so the more the merrier… folk is for the people and we'd love to make these workshops as varied and inclusive as possible!
Workshops are open to all adults 18+, with each session focusing on a different topic or area. You can sign up for all four sessions or each individual session.
This workshop series has been commissioned as part of the New Forest Creative Commissions 2025-26, delivered by Culture Connects and Folio New Forest and as a result, we are able to offer the workshops free of charge to attend.
Spaces are limited: to apply for a space or find out more, please email
